Kanan moved to Fort McMurray in 2010. After graduating from Westwood Community High School in 2015, Kanan attended the University of Alberta to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science. Having finished her undergraduate studies in 2019, Kanan enrolled in the Faculty of Law at the University of Alberta. Despite the challenging global pandemic, Kanan successfully completed her Juris Doctor in 2022.

Kanan returned home to Fort McMurray in 2022 and successfully completed her Articles with Cooper & Company, and was called to the Bar in July of 2023.

After a long time away, Kanan is happy to be home with her family and friends. Kanan is looking for opportunities to get involved with the community and is eager to reconnect.

In her spare time, Kanan enjoys painting, reading, and exploring the numerous trails around Fort McMurray.
